Maximise Your Playtime
Here are a few items that I've found useful in speeding up certain parts of the game.
Spell/Action Cards
Speeding up your players' choices in combat is very important as combat usually takes up the lion's share of the time in a session. GaleForce9 have got you covered with their glorious class based cards. Now you don't need to look up what every spell/special action/racial ability does in the manuals on each of your turns!
Special Item Cards
Writing out item cards for you players cuts down on note taking in game, flipping through manuals and can add a level of secrecy to the game. Matt Mercer uses filing cards and to be honest you should probably do anything that Matt does. However, I have been toying with blank cards because they work with the next hack...
Card Pocket Pages
As a recovering Magic: The Gathering player I had a lot of these hanging around. Putting these into any player's folder speeds up reference time for the above two ideas, keeps everything in one place and makes them waterproof (I totally didn't move my DM screen into one of my players' cup of coffee, antiquing their character sheet at the start of a game once...). They hold up to 18 cards per sheet and they can be found in your Local Game Store for around 25p each.
Additional Character Sheets
There are extra homebrewed sheets specifically for classes that can go in your character folios. These are some of the ones I've found useful:
So here are some of the ways you can speed up for decision making processes whilst in combat.
May you roll well!
